The peak body representing Australians living with motor neurone disease. MND is uniformly terminal with a ~2-3 year median prognosis from diagnosis — the population most tightly aligned with LWD's remit.

MND Australia'"s
| Y1 audited outcome | Relevance to MND Australia |
|---|---|
| 31 cases | Audited pilot cohort. Every case at intake had a terminal diagnosis in the target population. |
| $1.82M debt resolved | Average $58,700 per case — real scale of the problem the pathway addresses. |
| 23-day average resolution | Inside the medically-meaningful window for most terminal-diagnosis prognoses. |
| 52% average K10 drop | Validated psychological distress instrument — quality-of-life outcome, not just financial outcome. |
| $1,840 average cost per case | Efficient use of funder resources; sustainable model at national scale. |
| 87c direct-service ratio | Every dollar donated funds 87 cents of licensed mediation practice. Charity-governance and referrer-confidence indicator. |
Individual outcomes vary. These describe past pilot results only and are not a guarantee of individual future outcomes.

Subject: LWD referral pathway — MOU pack for MND Australia.
[Recipient name],
Following [the introduction via {referrer if warm} / the launch announcement of 1 October], I write to formally deliver the MOU pack for the LWD referral pathway, for MND Australia's consideration.
[Laurence practitioner-voice paragraph pending]
Life Without Debt went live as a registered Australian charity on 1 October 2026. LWD funds licensed debt mediation for Australians with a terminal diagnosis. The mediation itself is performed by Credit Mediation Services under Australian Credit Licence No. 387398, where I have practised for the past thirty years.
The ask is not endorsement. The ask is recognition of a referral pathway that MND Australia may refer into where a patient's care plan identifies financial hardship as a domain of concern. The pathway is set out in the enclosed MOU pack: what constitutes a suitable referral, the case-review process, the information-sharing envelope, the outcome tracking, and the complaints and privacy framework.
The audited Y1 pilot outcomes — 31 cases, $1.82M debt resolved, 23-day average resolution, 52% average K10 psychological distress reduction, $1,840 average cost per case, 87 cents of every dollar to direct-service mediation — are described in the pack. Individual outcomes vary; these are past pilot results only.
I welcome an initial call in the fortnight following delivery. My direct is [phone].
Kind regards,
Laurence Mackay

What to escalate immediately. If MND Australia raises a reputational concern about the ACL 387398 pathway, the practitioner-model claim, or the Y1 audit rigor, that is a Carla-and-Chair-immediately concern — do not respond same-day. Route to G4 for a considered response within 5 business days.
